The THING Sites GeoTour

NOW LIVE! The THING Project has teamed up with the folk over at geocaching.com to create an official Thing Sites GeoTour. We have hidden geocaches at locations on and around Thing Sites in all seven of the partner regions. Follow in the footsteps of the Vikings by visiting each of these locations and exploring the landscapes and traditions which surround these fascinating sites.

What is Geocaching?

Using GPS to locate a Geocache

Finding the GeocacheGeocaching is a global treasure hunting game played using GPS-enabled devices. Containers, known as caches, are hidden in locations all over the world, waiting to be found. To seek a cache visit www.geocaching.com and search for caches in your area. Once you have downloaded the coordinates, then you are ready to go out and find the cache.  When you have found your cache, write a comment in the log book, and return to www.geocaching.com to log your find and share your experience with other users.

Leaving a message with the GeocacheThe Geocache box Geocachers are not meant to remove caches. Once you have found the cache, return it to its original location for the next player to find.  Caches often contain swappable items which you can exchange for items of equal value.  You may even find a travel bug in your cache – why not help it on its journey by moving it along to its next location?
