8th Nov Thing Sites lead the way in Global Treasure Hunt
The THING Project is pleased to announce the launch of the Thing Sites GeoTour, an innovative new tourism initiative linking sites in Norway, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Shetland, Orkney, Highland Scotland and the Isle of Man.
The tour, which has been developed with the assistance of the team over at Geocaching.com is a new and exciting way to explore our shared Viking heritage.

The THING Project’s Eileen Brooke-Freeman was invited to speak about the project to members of the Destination Viking Association when they arrived in Shetland this weekend for their annual general meeting.
27th Sep European Researchers' Night in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands
Learn more about Tórshavn's early history on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th September. Meet at Østrøm, west harbour for an evening which illuminates the history of things and explores genetics and astronomy.
6th Sep Day Conference and Archaeological Investigation in Dingwall.
On Thursday 13 September a day conference will be held in Dingwall. The purpose of the conference is to present an awareness of the outcomes of the THING International Project to an audience of representatives from local heritage groups and organisations, local councillors - Highland elected members, community councillors - and local businesses and organisations particularly those active in the tourism industry

The THING Project is pleased to announce the performance of 'Aert-Fast' a new play by Shetland playwright Jacqueline Clark, commissioned by Shetland Amenity Trust and inspired by historical accounts of events at a Shetland thing meeting.
24th Jul Ólavsøka (St Olav's Wake) 29th July
The Faroese national holiday Ólavsøka (St Olav’s Wake) takes place on the 29th of July each year. It marks the reopening of the Ting, or Parliament, and commemorates the death of St Olav at the battle of Stiklestad in 1030.

The 8th of June is cultural night in Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands and this year it will be marked by the staging of an exhibition about the THING Project in Monkastova on Tinganes - the oldest house in Tórshavn.
