A free academic seminar in Douglas, Isle of Man will uncover recent research to unveil the Forgotten Kingdom.

A new thing site is to be built in Nesting, Shetland, thanks to the help of a Heritage Lottery Fund ‘All Our Stories’ grant.

The THING Project is pleased to announce the launch of the Thing Sites GeoTour, an innovative new tourism initiative linking sites in Norway, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Shetland, Orkney, Highland Scotland and the Isle of Man. The tour, which has been developed with the assistance of the team over at Geocaching.com is a new and exciting way to explore our shared Viking heritage.

The THING Project’s Eileen Brooke-Freeman was invited to speak about the project to members of the Destination Viking Association when they arrived in Shetland this weekend for their annual general meeting.

The THING Project is pleased to announce the performance of 'Aert-Fast' a new play by Shetland playwright Jacqueline Clark, commissioned by Shetland Amenity Trust and inspired by historical accounts of events at a Shetland thing meeting.

The Faroese national holiday Ólavsøka (St Olav’s Wake) takes place on the 29th of July each year. It marks the reopening of the Ting, or Parliament, and commemorates the death of St Olav at the battle of Stiklestad in 1030.

The 8th of June is cultural night in Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands and this year it will be marked by the staging of an exhibition about the THING Project in Monkastova on Tinganes - the oldest house in Tórshavn.

The THING Project 6th Partner Meeting will take place at Balestrand in Norway from 12 to 14 June 2012.

Royal Scottish National Orchestra visit Shetland thing site

An exciting seminar on the theme of justice and gender is to be held in Orkney next month.

This spring, a series of public lectures in Shetland and Orkney will explore different aspects of things.

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) is coming to Shetland. The concerts include the world premiere of Chris Stout’s composition Tingaholm in Lerwick on Sunday 4th of March.

An exciting study is set to develop plans for a new Viking-themed heritage hub near Dingwall town centre.

A new book, telling the story of Gulatinget and the Gulatinget law code during the Viking period and early medieval times, has just has been published.

Vikings were out in force in Shetland in November! The Viking Feast, organised as part of the Thing Project, was held in Hay’s Dock Café Restaurant which was transformed into a Viking Longhouse for the evening.

The benefits of involvement in the THING Project will be discussed at the Highland Council's Dingwall and Seaforth and Black Isle forums on the 8th and 9th of June
